[GSAS-II] Image controls: "Penetration" and "Apply detector absorption"

Good afternoon!
Please, could you give a bit more detail about the parameters "Penetration"
and "Apply detector absorption" within the image controls? There seems to
be some overlap between them, if Penetration refers to the detector? I have
checked the tutorials and these parameters remain unused (unchecked). Could
I infer that their influence in the results is very subtle? Default for
detector absorption is 0.5. Is this value used, even when unchecked? I'm
using a PerkinElmer area detector, generally at 30 or 60keV energies and
normal incidence.
