Problem: As of Monday evening, October 7th, the APS has been troubleshooting an issue with injection septum S:IS1 operation.
Activity: A replacement thick septum has been installed as of late last evening. Vacuum readings in the section are currently at acceptable levels and turnover to AOP and the MCR has occurred. Depending on the results of the machine start-up and injection testing, a future access may be required for additional alignment today.
Estimated time of shutter enable: The earliest possible return to user operations is 8 AM tomorrow, Friday, October 11. This date/time is the most optimistic current estimate, and depends on many unknown variables including injection septum magnet meeting performance requirements and potential for additional accesses for magnet alignment. Therefore this is a significant probability that return to normal operations could be later than this.
Due to this uncertainly in the date/time for resumption of user operations, it is still not recommended that users plan on travel to the APS. More frequent updates will be posted as the date/time for return to user operations becomes more definitive.
Next planned update: Thursday October 10 at 5 pm, and as information becomes available.
